Today's film recommendations:
Rent, as in the 2005 production for film. Note the familiar faces in the cast from the Broadway circuit. A fantastic adaptation of a beautiful stage show. Very well executed without the cheesy cliches that come with so many musical films.
The Libertine. 2004
Stars Johnny Depp, John Malkovich, and other recognisable faces such as Samantha Morton and Johnny Vegas.
Depp brings The Earl Of Rochester's famous debauchery and degredation to another level of understanding. He plays the role superbly with an almost faultless English accent (slightly Jack Sparrow, but with more eloquence!). Those who are used to seeing the very polished appearances of Depp will be shocked by his appearance at the end of the film - though diehard fans will know that Depp is never one to turn down a challenging role.
Sorry I haven't been updating much, but I haven't felt compelled to write much. My summer viewing has sadly been restricted to the Blockbusters my friends wish to drag me to - Transformers, Harry Potter, Shrek 3 and the like.
Next on my viewing schedule are a few films that are slightly less mainstream - "La Vie en Rose", "Paris, J'taime", and "SherryBaby". I'm sure there will be a more coherent update after seeing these.
